Constructed using the finest materials over the course of a month, this top hat is not only unparalleled by any of today’s standards, it would be the envy of any former time.
Inner Tip Plate
We begin by building the interior tip plate. The shape is traced from the top of the crown block onto a thin sheet of African padauk wood. The dense grain provides a solid inner plate with an aesthetic grain.
The plate is rough cut with a coping saw and and hand-hewn to an exact bevel matching the flaring of the crown tip. It is sanded then oiled with a citrus extract to provide added resilience.
